It is a holy city and municipal board in the Haridwar District in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India. Haridwar in Hindi means, Gateway to God- 'hari' meaning god and 'dwar' meaning gate. Haridwar is considered to be one of the seven holiest places to Hindus, as the devas are said to have left their footprints there.
